How do you show a city before anyone can walk its streets? For Underground Evolution, our answer was a set of short cinematic teasers: half a minute each, black and white, and built around one face of Vesper City at a time.
Four faces, one city
Each teaser follows a different character: the Don at the top, the Kid at the bottom, the Singer in the spotlight and the Detective keeping watch. Together they tell the story of the city from four sides. They are not characters from the game itself. Think of them as the city’s mood, put on screen.
The look
We went for classic 1920s crime pictures: hard light, deep shadows, rain on the pavement and smoke in the air. No colour, no clutter, just the city and the people who want it. Every teaser ends the same way, on our logo and a card that says what it is: Not actual gameplay footage. Cinematic interpretation.
The voice and the music
A low, unhurried narrator carries each teaser, with a handful of lines and plenty of silence. The music builds, drops out at the key moment and comes back for the finish.
Three languages
Every teaser is made in English, Spanish and Portuguese, each with its own narration, and in two shapes: widescreen for YouTube and the website, and vertical for Shorts and phones.
The posters
Alongside the teasers we made a poster series, Five weeks. Five faces. One city., with one new face every week and a spotlight here on the blog for each.
You can watch all four teasers as they arrive on our YouTube channel.
